Does levelling Bart/Homer/Lisa/Marge have any effect, of is it merely for show?

Here's the Gold Chart to finish the day before the event ends. I'm struggling to make gold... So far, I have 4200ish (just above what is minimum for today).. However, I have friends how have 9k and 17k gold... How on earth is that possible? I train my nerds (35 atm) close to every 2 hours (8-9 times per day, as I also have to sleep), and attack immediately when I have nerds. I revenge when possible (only once, because when you switch to another player it clears all revenges), and attack randoms for max profit. I have tried to attack fast (many nerds) or spread my attacks thin (1-3 nerds per attack), but both gold and elixir is painfully slow.. ATM, neither Lisa or Bart have any quests, so they are even doing tasks for elixirs, to help a bit.. Any suggestions? My "tip" is to only use cheaters on random Springfield castles. This gives you the most bang for your cheater, i.e. 140 E and 50 G.

So what is the maximum number of nerds you can have at once? I've seen several comments with some different numbers.

So what is the maximum number of nerds you can have at once? I've seen several comments with some different numbers. I think it depends on how many your castles are producing. But during the Saturday troop replenishing, mine maxed to 45? So I'm not quite sure.

I'm struggling to make gold... So far, I have 4200ish (just above what is minimum for today).. However, I have friends how have 9k and 17k gold... How on earth is that possible? You get a lot of gold defending, but you have no control over whether your friends will attack you. However, be sure you have a fair number of active friends and check back to clear frequently. The other big chunk I see to get is from the "overnight" attacks. Granted, "overnight" means something different to the various timezones around the world, but I've found sending my last batch of nerds (or maybe a double batch) out right before sleep pays off quite well. Seem to get a lot of folks who don't defend and therefore you get more. This is especially true if you attach the randoms, as they both seem to be less developed/visited towns on average and the payout is more. I only started doing the randoms when my nerd production ramped enough that I already had visited all my friends but it has spiked my gold quite nicely the last two nights. I am experiencing the same as gkpiggy's "overnight" attacks, which is fantastic. And as for my strategy: I have also been spreading my nerds out. I upgraded loads during the weekend and since I work and don't have time to play on the weekdays, in the mornings especially, I try to do as much as I can in the evenings. I don't expect to be in the 10ks soon but I think I can reach the daily minimum required (according to the chart shared above/earlier) by clearing destroyed buildings in the morning and doing most of my attacking at night. I have been spending half my nerds on neighbors who have higher gold count and who seem active in the event - and the other half on randoms. Although, I do the occasional random attack and still tap on my less active neighbors to show my respect. Based on what I've read, it's better to let a house be destroyed than to defend it as the payout for the former is greater for the attacker/invader/neighbor. So in order for that karma wheel to work out, I try not to defend my houses and hope the ones I attack feel the same. I also let people destroy my castle, unless I'm playing and waiting for my nerds to finish training. I do acidentally tap on the shields though sometimes but all of what I've just shared is what has been working for me. I'd appreciate other tips too though! Also: I don't just attack any randoms, I attack the ones in which, someone is already in the middle of attacking the castle or if there are destroyed houses around. I assume - and I'm aware that this is a very inaccurate strategy, that the person is sleeping or letting people destroy their houses. +1
I honestly feel that they're trying to get all of us to talk to each other and help each other out.

My current strategy is to one attack per random town through all my nerds every 2 hours. If I'm really pressed for time, I'll use more than one nerd per attack or attack more than one building. I mean, you can use so many nerds in just one town, so it's not like when you could only do gremlins or gift bags to friends and some of your friends would be all filled up. When it cycles to 24 hours since my last friends visit, I go through my friends and attack one nerd, one building until I run out of nerds. I do put one nerd in five buildings in Other Springfield because it's not like they're going to defend the town. When I run out of nerds, I just wait until my next batch is ready and zip through them. I'm at 60 max nerds, I think, so it only takes 2 groups to go through my friends. So I'm still visiting my friends and collecting my 3 taps (got FOUR donuts yesterday!), but going to random towns gives me a lot of money, as random people don't play as often as my friends. I only use my cheaters on castles in random towns. This strategy is working well for me, as I never max out my nerds by keeping the total low. Because I scatter my attacks around, nearly every time I log in I have elixir and gold waiting, and sometimes a lot. I have 11,000 gold now with no donuts spent. My castles are all around level 10. So I'm not flying through the update, but I'm not stuck really far back. eta: I try to hold back 5 or so nerds just so I can get revenge on random people who attack me.

It appears the rewards for having one of your nerds stopped has changed. Now I'm getting 2 1 instead of 5 1. Max nerds is determined by the current levels of your castles. Does levelling Bart/Homer/Lisa/Marge have any effect, of is it merely for show? I think their tasks award slightly more Elixir when leveled, but that's just hearsay; I haven't checked. I had one morning when I had 7900 Elixir waiting for me, lol. This morning I didn't get so much.

So what is the maximum number of nerds you can have at once? I've seen several comments with some different numbers. It depends on your castle levels. See if this post helps you figure it out. A "max nerds" stat on that castle info popup would have been very nice, but they seem to have forgotten it.

Can anyone confirm if, with the reduction of payouts for attacks and defenses, have they increased the odds of getting a cheater (was what, 2%)? I've gotten 4 today in 10 hours of playing, which is either very lucky or something has changed. Seems if you're going to cut payouts it would be nice to bump up the odds of cheaters a bit.

This event is so confusing and frustrating for me, I honestly feel like just rushing through the whole thing with donuts. I dont understand why it wont let me buy more walls or towers when I upgrade the damned castles multiple times...

You can also now click on the buildings that have been attacked for revenge not just the castles.

Another tip I have (and forgive me if it was mentioned by someone else and I missed it) is when I visit a random town and find that several houses have been destroyed, I attack five houses instead of just my normal one. I figure that person might not be playing that much and I might reap 5x the reward. It doesn't always pay off, but when it does, it pays off big. I woke up to over 7000 elixir this morning, my best haul yet.

This could go either way - maybe if a lot of houses are destroyed the person is more likely to show up soon to clear them since it clearly has been awhile since they have done so. Maybe if there are very few or no smoking houses, the person has just been in to defend and that would mean it's a good time to drop a few nerds. In my opinion it's a crap shoot either way.

I don't know if this was posted somewhere within the thread, but I didn't see it. I just finished the Collect Gold For Prizes portion of this, got my Barbarian Statue and Banners, and was hoping that I could now collect gold for donuts. Alas, I now get one Elixir Bundle (not sure if that's 1000 or 4000) for every 8000 Gold I collect from now until October 7. I already have 40K Elixir that I can only spend on a castle that's finished, or furnish it with wagons, stocks or one particular banner. I suspect that I'll be spending a significant amount of time away from this game for the next month. Raze my town - go ahead.

ahh, damn, I hoped for donuts too. I'm not there yet but knowing this I'm not grinding anymore I bought a couple of hay wagons and banners but that's it, I'm storing the castle so there's no point for me to grind further.. If only there were more cool things the purple stuff could buy

It is, but like I said, when it pays off, it pays off big. 8900 elixir this morning with this strategy. The other thing that works in its favor is some people are just leaving shields untapped. I think I'm at that point now, that I'll clear taps on the castles only so I can collect my nerds, but leave everything else until the building is gone. I don't need elixir or gold that much, nor the cash or xp. I didn't speed through this on purpose, just played a lot and I feel done with this update already. I do have a few more prizes to collect, but over a month to get them. I like the update, but the prizes and stuff you can buy are lacking. I hope we get something to freshen it up because the next 38 days and 18 hours are going to drag....

Does levelling Bart/Homer/Lisa/Marge have any effect, of is it merely for show? The higher the level the more elixir you earn per task goes up.
