I the Game Guides and Game Discussion sections, but I'm starting to wonder whether the Game Discussion section should be members-only, to encourage registration rather than just lurking. If Game Guides is still open to everyone, then that draws people in who are looking for info about the game (especially new players, hooray!), but the up-to-the-moment info that hard-core players want on update days, etc., would only be available after login. Just a thought. Edit: If I could 'Like' a reply, I would. Hadn't thought of the search-engine problem, and that's likely how lots of member find us. Glad to have more tech-savvy people pushing the important buttons! STAFF EDIT: We have a "pester" feature which will remind guests to register after so many unique thread views up to 8 times. I believe that is working well. Some people just really don't want to register. (I have clicked in and clicked right back out of such forums myself when all I wanted was to browse around for some quick answers.) I'm afraid that restricting the general discussion about the game - basically the whole reason for the board - might just encourage people to go elsewhere. I think our best bet at boosting membership is to continue to make sure that we are the best, most engaging and up-to-date community available. Another pitfall of restricting that board would be limiting our google search results. We want people to find us by the rich game discussions going on. Less for google to browse means less hits for content people may be looking for.

two thought one show the person that is online in the area in witch we show our badges have a wellcome and have thread about how to do your avatr
STAFF EDIT: We chose not to show online status for two reasons: 1) it makes the profiles longer, and 2) it's not necessary to know. If you want to know if someone is online, you can go to their profile or look on the main page. If they have not made themselves invisible, you can see if they are online.
You are welcome to create a thread or guide on how to create an avatar.

how about a sections where you can chat live with members. Icon for letting others known when there online and if they are you can send them a text saying would like to talk to you.
STAFF EDIT: This would require adding in code that could cause problems with other functions that have been added by the staff. PM's work quite well for chats.

Maybe I'm just missing something really basic here, but I can't find a button that automatically takes you to the top of the page. Is this a legit suggestion?
STAFF EDIT: At the bottom of every post there are "Back to Top" and "Go to Bottom" links, just below the signature area.

Maybe I haven't found it yet, but does it tell you anywhere how you go from lurking for donuts to donut eater, then donut snob and so in based on your post count? What are the requirements for each one? Also, what about an option to have seasonal smileys? Something about the Christmas donut dance one that cracks me up every time. STAFF EDIT: The number of posts required to "level up" your rank is calculated in dozens… because that's how we roll! Here are the ranks: SourceAs for seasonal smileys, they are tied to the forum theme so you can still see the Christmas donut dance, for example, if you are using the TSTO_Holiday theme. Go to Edit Profile > Settings > Forum Theme to select the standard theme or any of our past/current special holiday themes.

Have you guys looked into that auto uploading photo feature we used to have but got rid of because it was naughty? It was really handy, just a shame the website that hosted it was a bit too risqué for some. Maybe there is another out there by now?
STAFF EDIT: Looking into this.

I was thinking like moe's place. Just a place where you can eat its not realy. moe's is a fun place for drinks i just thought about the same place but just can order food.. who do i talk to about opening one. Also I need a partner maybe a hostess and buss, boys ,and servers. I also need someone to make the dishes.Have a lot of great ideas. STAFF EDIT: This sounds like fun! If you have a concept for creating and running such a thread, please feel free! If it proves to be a popular hangout, we can even get the thread stickied. Bon appetite! [Note: The first answer to this question said that this is how Moe's was started and not by staff. That is not exactly true - Moe's was started by staff as a social experiment that ended up being great due to the incredible creativity and imagination of a certain monorail salesman. It is true, however, that the character Moe Szyslak is not a staff-run entity.]

Admins and mods should show their online status. There's someone posting unlimited threads about unlimited donuts and cash. Reported the first one but he created several of them. Wanted to look who's online, but some mods deactivated the online status and were last online in Feb 2013. This is annoying. (But I hide my activity too... But I'm no member of the staff)
STAFF EDIT: First, I want to say thank you to you and everyone else who have reported the spammers. It makes it a lot easier to deal with the posts. I signed in and new right away something was wrong.
The best way to report anything that requires immediate attention, like a spammer, is to use the report post feature. Any staff member who is online with a device that supports the Moderation tools, will receive an alert the next time we refresh our screen. And by clicking the alert we go to a page that lets us do anything that is required.
Reporting issues to who you see online is not a good idea. First, we are not necessarily in a position to act on it. The mobile site does not have access to moderation tools. Nor, for some reason, does the Proboards app. Second, not all staff are moderators. Which means contacting those people would get no results. Third, seeing who is online is useless. Technically some of us are always online, but that is because we never click logout.
And most important of all, it is nobody's business to know if someone is online if they choose to block that. All of the staff are volunteers, and entitled to the same privacy everyone else on the forum has.

In regards to people that get banned, can we ban all of their other accounts as well, so they don't keep spamming threads with nonsence STAFF EDIT: All of the IP Addresses that have been linked to the spammer's accounts are different. One of the more tech savvy moderators was able to identify a potential problem IP Span that seems to come up across multiple forums when it was Google searched, but to ban the entire span an administration would have to hand key over 7,000 IP addresses. For now, all precautions that can be taken have been. Banning the entire IP Span will have to be discussed with ProBoards, and it is not know if this will result in the unintentional ban of potential members.

I see we switched back to the regular emoticons. I really liked the bubble gum popping smiley face. Any way we can get that back, sans Santa hat maybe? That was one of the best ones! If I ask nicely and say, "Please" Spiffshine ? STAFF EDIT: I couldn't find it, so I made it! Enjoy @ray!

Add a Badge Nomination drop down along the top of the posts. Here are some useful badge options a post (and inheritably the poster) could be selected by the reader from a drop down menu along the top of the post next to the Thumbs Up button:
<>Knowledge Base -- If the post is a guide type post and they find it helpful enough to be a nomination <>Angel Donut -- For those that have really taken the time to personally help them out with a problem, game design challenge, etc... <>Homer Buddah -- Still don't know what this one is for sure, but if it fits....include it. <>Krusty The Clown Badge -- If it brought a smile to your day or warmed your heart with laughter. <>Thumbs Up -- I know this has its own nomination thread, so maybe not on the this drop down list, but it could still show the appreciation of the help given.
Then a little icon will show (maybe even with a number count in () next to the icon if more than one) for each of the badge nominations that other posters liked it for.
And then in the profile area next to each post below the Thumbs Up number there could be a number of each of those drop down nominations that poster has received from all of his posts.
STAFF EDIT: That is an awesome idea! I would love to see this happen and will check with Support to see if it is possible.
In the meantime, if you think someone has done something that is worthy of a particular badge, feel free to send an email to the staff nominating them; and explain why you think so.

Maybe 1 or 2 more sections in The Couch? Like.. Elementary or Lard lads donuts.. Lol just a suggestion STAFF EDIT: If you are looking for a thread to be created, please do so. If you mean sub-groups, please expand on your request. What would creating them do to enhance the forum?

I see that a few members have requested a back to top button and I see there is one. The only reason I use it (and I do often) is because I'm finished viewing that thread and want to go back a level or go somewhere else in the forum. What would be nice is to have the hierarchy bar (did I just make that name up?) at the bottom as well. Just saves a step by being able to directly tap how far back I want to go.
TSTO > Forum Related Questions & Suggestions > Forum Suggestions
STAFF EDIT: That is a great idea and just might be quite easy to implement. I'll put it on the To-Do list.

Is there a way to keep me logged in on my iPad? I've noticed I am always having to log in when using my iPad, but I never have to when viewing from my computer. Even when I minimize safari on my iPad to look at something else for a few minutes I get logged out. And, yes, I have checked the remember me box when I log in, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks, STAFF EDIT: no, this is part of Proboards security. It disconnects sessions that are idle, or if there appear to be multiple devices on one IP.

What about political discussions? The first thing germanys new gov did was to raise their money. +800€ Now at 9000€/month
STAFF EDIT: You are welcome to discuss politics with the understanding that it can often become a can of worms and that any debate that gets out of hand may be removed. If you have something politically pressing you feel you want to discuss, start a thread in the Channel 6 sub-board.

Spiffshine, would it be possible to set up a gallery type group where members can post their various artwork, and receive feedback/comments? Currently such images are just posted in random threads, which can cause issues for people. Particularly those who are viewing the forum over mobile. I would be interested in seeing these. But not over my mobile data plan. There is a sub-forum in Screenshots called Feedback & Critiques. Is that what you mean? Not quite. A gallery section of some kind maybe. In The Couch there are several threads that are getting heavy on art related images. Things like pictures taken and paintings that people have created and they want to share. And example is the photography thread has been revived, and there are a lot of images in the recent postings to it. Which makes it slow to load, and data intensive over mobile. But there are also discussions going on in the thread. STAFF EDIT: I have a plugin up my sleeve that might make this possible. I'll add it to the To-Do list. A Bad Example, HobbesIsReal

Without sounding like a bore & a nag, could we limit the number of GIFs people use in their profile picture & signature? I'm having tremendous trouble scrolling and loading a page with people that's have a few. It's making me not post and participate as I haven't got the patience to wait & scroll at a snails pace STAFF EDIT: Unfortuntately, it is beyond our technical capabilities to control the file size of avatars or signature images that people choose to use. We have limited the display size of signatures, but that doesn't help if enormous GIFs are loading and being sized down to fit. Your best option is to go to Edit Profile > Settings and choose Show Signatures: No.

FROM THE BADGE GUIDE: "You can get this by making a suggestion on how to improve the forum in the handily titled ´Forum Suggestions´ thread. Actually, thanks to soft-hearted Marge there is almost no quality control going on here and pretty much any suggestion you make will earn you that coveted cookie."
I am testing the quality control here. So I suggest that you give me a cookie badge for suggesting that I test the quality control for this badge.
I am just kidding around. Honestly I don't know what you could improve. I am having so much fun here I don't know why it took me so long to start posting.
STAFF EDIT: Thank you for your help in testing our quality control methods. The data you have gathered has been invaluable in determining that the system is, indeed, quite lax.
