Still have to deal with customs when you return. I can't remember where we had gone but when we entered the country, we had to declare our cameras. They then charged you a fee if you were above a certain number. This was years ago so i can't even remember the exact details. Either way, when you return you go through customs and they will get you then. Unless the package is opened and it is yours. Otherwise, I would have to pay a lot of taxes when I traveled with my laptop, camera and ipad last year.

Oh shit! Okay, screw that option. Just wait for somebody to go to the US and buy it for you. :/ Interesting fact: according to our laws, if you bring any eletronic on your hand bag or your hand, you dont have to pay any taxes. if you bring in your bag, and the custim stops you, you have to pay taxes!! Wow thats is crazy expensive... have you thought about taking a trip over sea's and doing some purchasing i would like to do this... if i go to us by plane, and bring two macbooks, one for me, other to sell for a half of brazilian price, my trip is already paid!! i just need to find a time to do this... now i have too many work until april!!

Well thats the thing just say you had the i7 macbook when you enter, and if you dont have it in the box but like a normal laptop in your bag or a case then they wouldnt be the wiser but i dont know brazil laws so the penalty might be more severe than in canada and usa Good point! I think that's why the one country had you declare the number of cameras. I think you were allowed two and then you paid a tax. They knew you were trying to bring one back. Most people don't have more than two professional level cameras (unless they are actually professional photographers lol and then I presume there was some document you carried for that).

How about buying it online? Maybe buy through the US store and ship it to you via a third party shipping company. The third party will use a PO box as an address and they charge you shipping. Of course you have to pay for shipping from the original site you're buying from as well. I don't know if this is an option you can look at because that's what I do for some online stores that don't ship to me. i dont like this way. my friend bought a camera, 3.6k us dollars and made this... the Custom intercepted and he had to pay the federal tax, and this means, for eletronic, the tax is 95% over the original value!! Yes, very similar here in Peru. Any time some is coming to visit us we place out order for electronic goods (certain products are very expensive here). Oh and tea bags. You can only get Lipton here and that's god awful tea. We may have left the motherland but when it comes to tea there is no way we are going native. Hot with milk and sugar. None of this hot water and lemon nonsense or for that matter cold tea or a cup of tea that's gone cold with a cigarette end in it, which was quite common when I was still a student

Hmmm don't think anyone's ever copied my town. I prefer to think that it's because people realize that you simply can't copy perfection. It would be like trying to pawn off a finger paint version of the Mona Lisa rather than because its a sprawling pile of bullocks. Ah, the bliss of ignorance!

In the thread on the other board the user names are still visible on the bottom of the pictures. I’m not sure if this is intentional or not. But I did realize that at least one of these people is on my neighbors lists as well. I think they appeared when I added a couple of random names after participating in the “Some of You Have Nice Towns” thread on the other board. I did delete a couple of people I picked up after posting on that thread who started to veer very closely in the direction of my town or the towns of the other posters who contributed to that thread.
Ultimately I don’t think I really care if people copy my town. At the end of the day it’s just a game. But I do tend to delete copycats because I want to see interesting, different things when I visit neighbors. If I wanted to see replicas then I’d never leave the home screen. Also I hope Other Springfield is not reading my comments, because I may or may not have borrowed a couple of ideas that I have yet to come up with better design solutions.

I left a username on there by mistake, when I noticed I started to remove it and was going to replace the image, but by the time it'd be quoted, and it would take too much effort to remove the original image so I thought what the heck lets just leave it. I think next time I'll be a little more careful.

I think I would be a little annoyed if someone copied me exactly. But having said that, obviously people are going to have similarities. Completely fresh ideas are pretty rare. There's only so many ways you can do a backyard.
I would however, be sorely tempted to steal XBL Heretic's idea for the escalator to nowhere, if i ever get it, because I love what he/she did with it. I won't though.

Knowing the way I am, my gut tells me I would be offended. I've seen other users on this forum and the EA forum that had fantastic ideas. I have been extremely deliberate in not copying those ideas, but only utilizing the very general idea and putting my own spin on it. I guess I prefer the inspiration of others to blatant copying.
That being said, only 1 other person can see my Springfield so it shouldn't be a problem.

I have seen a few neighbors do an exact lift from my town. I didn't get rid of any of them, though if we had an in game messaging system I may have said "nice gazebo park/playground, town square, etc". For similar ones that seem to maybe be inspired by something I've done, that's flattering. I never set out to copy anything anyone has done, but I'm sure I've got similar things happening in my town to others. Even before I really had game friends I thought I was coming up with original ideas and then saw I wasn't as creative as I thought when I started adding people.

Its a bit like someone doing a cover song if they improve on it and make it there on and better it then cool if its note for note its a rip off. Or selling out riding someones coat tail. They just leave it alone imitation is the most sincere form of flattery yes but a knock off louis vuitton looks like crap.

It's just a little ironic, because now I kind of feel as if I have seen many other players' towns without actually visiting them. I don't really understand the exact replica design in a game where there is no pay off for doing so.

I try my best not to copy. I remember early in the game blowing up certain areas of my town and starting over because I felt they too closely resembled aspects of "The Other Springfield". I have been wandering around friends towns for so long now I no longer know if I have any truly original ideas or if I'm subconsciously thieving. I think the key to originality would be to avoid all contact with other Springfield's and that's something I just can't do. I do try not to be influenced by others when new quest buildings begin by staying away just long enough to design my new building. The new science restaurant is an eg of that. I made a point of not looking at what friends had done with it until I was happy with my own design. I bought the volcano lair today. I have been looking at others for so long I found that a challenge to keep original. I think I did? But who knows. Also when I finally get the Popsicle tower and escalator I will be having fits trying to keep its design all my own. As for others copying me? I don't mind. Sincerest form of flattery and all that

I have mixed feeling about this if I see and like something that I haven't done before I might try to copy but not exact that's just wrong there's a lot of stuff you can do so to blatantly steal someone's idea is just wrong now that people are using the 3D effects there's gonna be a lot more of it make your own people if you like an idea modify it a little not brick for brick I have a nice strip of land I think I'm gonna turn into the pyramids of Giza put 2 small ones on the sides and a huge one in the middle so if I see it in your town your a piece of shit rat fuck who should be stabbed repeatedly hahahahaha or is that a little much lol good day my fellow tappers good day

I don't mind it at all.
I mean, if someone uses your Idea, that means they like it and you have good ideas. But if they try and act like its there own idea, that isn't cool.

Aww thank you I dont really wanna copy the whole idea of someones town but your park idea was tooo tempting not to "borrow" lol @ Le Freeze - I like you town, the traffic in your town almost makes it like real life lol I get ya there's been a few occasions where I've found it too hard to resist using other people's ideas too. But I completely made them my own of course These cute few topics summarize my view. I have been "inspired" several times by others. But I always make it my own. Some small parts, almost by default, may be the same. But the surrounding area is my idea. Plus, given the way I'm always changing my town, what may have been inspiration has turned into creation.

I think that adapting someone else's basic idea is fine: hedge maze, 3-d hedge effects, prison on an island, escalator to: prison/popsicle stick skyscraper/whatever... Things like that spread around so quickly, there's no point trying to enforce your intellectual property rights. To some extent, I think a good chunk of the enjoyment from the social aspect of the game is the exchange of ideas.
What's weird is the sort of exact or almost-exact copying that Tony posted about before. Since much of the fun of the game is to create your own personal Springfield, why would you want to xerox someone else's town? I guess people vary a lot on where they draw the line between adapting and copying.
That said, to each his or her own. Do what you want with your town, and if a neighbor doesn't like it (for any reason), they can un-neighbor you.

I think there are a lot of ideas that lots of folks have used and built upon...hedge hills and stadium seating for example. I just redesigned my Downs and added stadium seats. I didn't copy anyone in particular but def used the idea I've seen in a lot of towns. I can't say that any of my neighbors have out and out copied me, but if I saw exact replicas I'd def be annoyed!

My Springfield downs is one of my favorite areas of my Springfield. I saw one of my friends (not a reg poster) copied the idea. I deleted them. I also recently found someone (a reg poster I don't feel like calling out right now) whom the day after I rearranged my town to make better use of the escalator, copied the same idea... I'm kinda pissed about it to tell the truth since before I did it I checked all of my friends towns to see if anyone had the same idea, and none of them did. This person gave me no credit on either board, which I believe im at least entitled to that. I haven't deleted him yet just based on seeing what he's going to do next...
Hopefully he sees this and decides to give proper credit...
