I know just lately, tony posted a thread on the 'other forum' with pictures of an exact replica of part of his town that someone had nabbed. Today, doing my heart collecting, I found 2 of my friends had done exactly that. Took parts of my town, and copied them piece for piece. So I deleted them!  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for borrowing ideas, and making them your own. (I'm guilty of this myself on a few occasions) but to completely copy people's ideas, is below the belt in my opinion  What do you guys think? Would you also delete the copycats, or just leave them be? |

I've made it pretty clear how I feel about this on the other forum.
I don't like it.
It's why I never posted a whole Springfield screenshot of my town. It is also why I rarely post screenshots at all. However, I feel slightly better posting them here so I might put a few up.
I spend hours on my designs. I actually take the time to draw it all out on paper before I even begin, so to find that somebody has copied? I would delete them as well.
I always say "Be inspired by, do not copy."
You see something you like in another town? Then figure out a way how to do something similar but put your own spin on it. I like seeing something I've done improved upon and made better. It challenges me to up my own design game, fi you will.

For me personally, I don't care if someone "copies" an idea from my town. If it has been thought of, someone else already thought it! That's my take on it.

Consider yourself ignored. I apologize if I'm coming off as grumpy but I would hate to see the ugliness that was rampant at the other forum make it's way over here. I'd feel bad if someone copied my design. Like Melissa said, it's a different story if they improve it and make it their own, but if they exactly copied it, I'd probably just remove them.

I had a neighbour who copied the layout where I had my library (a long time ago) the road near it exactly the same, at the time I had the Jebediah statue in front of it too, which they copied also! And the hedges were exactly the same. It did annoy me slightly and after a while I did delete them!
It's like Melissa said, if you like something in someones town then be inspired by it and put your own twist to it! Kymie I love your small park area , so I created one myself, the layout of it is completely different to yours with 2 paths through it and my fountains, seesaw and swings! But it was yours that inspired me!
I think it is quite lazy to just completely copy someone else's design!

I had recently discovered 2 friends, while i was delivering my daily dose of neighborly hearts, saw that they had copied parts of my town. I agree if you like someones idea do you own twist on it to make it your own. Or even say on the forums that you really like that part of their town and ask if it's ok to use it for their own.
Needless to say i have deleted both; and they have both sent me new friend requests (What you guys didn't take enough already?)
And is this tony68k you are referring too? I was trying to find this thread on the ea forum but can't...

Archi - It was Tony and probably deleted. Search for "Spot the differences".
I think if somebody said "I really like this, do you mind if I borrow it?" It probably wouldn't be as bad. If somebody said that to me? I would help them create something that was similar but their own design.
I love the creative aspect of this game and feel that those who copy are cheating themselves of that.

I have neighbour who has completely began a redesign on their town to match mine exactly - quite flattering really. But I continue to evolve my town so my it has moved on since their re-build began and they have stopped with half of the design done and the rest of the buildings just poked in one corner. I keep checking back to see how they are getting on - but no change for days now.

Seriously, what's wrong with people keeping comments civil? If you've got nothing to say on the subject, don't post. I made this thread so I could get others opinions on the matter in hand. What's wrong with that? :  I'm glad I inspired so many of you to create your own park  it's my fave part of my town & it's always really good to see what my friends have done to create their own version. One of my 'copycats' copied it square for square, and they're now gone lol. I put so much planning into my town, so for someone to come and take my ideas, and not even modify them, just doesn't sit well with me |

Obviously people are gong to have similar ideas at time, and it is cool to take inspiration from another town. (now I want to see this park of yours, kynie). And the statue is going to be in front of library or town hall a lot.
But I would find it weird if someone copied a section directly down to the hedges and all (the way it was in Tony's posting)
As i said in the other forum, if I see a great design in a friend's town (like some of your layouts, melissa), I visit them to look admiringly at it. Would never copy it.

That even if you'd copied my whole town, I'd still not delete : Aww thank you I dont really wanna copy the whole idea of someones town but your park idea was tooo tempting not to "borrow"  lol @ Le Freeze - I like you town, the traffic in your town almost makes it like real life lol I get ya there's been a few occasions where I've found it too hard to resist using other people's ideas too. But I completely made them my own of course |

Unless it looks like this.  Seriously now. I like to get inspired by other people's towns. But exact copying is totaly lame.
