March 2014 Monthly Event: Spring Cleaning

Have you been meaning to re-do or redesign a certain building or area? But you keep putting it off? Well, Spring is almost here, and for a lot of people it's an annual reminder that it's time to start cleaning. So for this month's event, we want to see you clean out your Springfield! Just kidding...... sort of....

We want you to pick a building or area of your town, and take a screenshot. Then, remodel, redesign, or, create a new area using that same building. Out with the old, in with the new! Post both your old and new building designs in the same post. 

We ask that you include one of this years Valentine's decorations in both of your screen shots, so we can eliminate people using old screen shots they have. We want you to do this challenge this month, and not rely on old shots for it.

We also ask that you include at least TWO characters "cleaning" in your second screenshot. A number of characters have outdoor visible tasks that involve them doing some sort of cleaning, and you can always check brettolmsted's handy Character Guide for reference. 


For the TL;DR Folk:

• Take a screenshot of a building/area in your town with at least ONE of the Valentine's Day 2014 decorations visible
• Redesign/Remodel that building/area, and take a second shot screen shot with at least ONE Valentine's Day 2014 decoration visible
• Include at least TWO characters doing some "cleaning" in your second screenshot
  
• Post both screenshots in one post in this thread. 
  

The reason for this challenge is because we know many of you have been looking for that inspiration and motivation to start redesigning, and we hope that this will jump start it for you.

Also, I'm sure there's many of you who love their Springfield EXACTLY the way it is, and don't want to change a single thing. And, we understand. But for the purpose of this challenge, we ask that if you do want to participate, you find at least one building that you can re-do(you can always change it back later!).

For your participation in this monthly event, you will receive this awesome badge!

Quick question: I just took out all decorations that don't have multipliers and redid my town last month- it's bare bones. I have not gotten around to putting new decorations out yet.

Could I use my bare building to start and "clean up" by decorating it?

I'm sorry. I need clarification, please. Lisa and homer clean trash, but I have no trash left in my main town. Agnes sweeps. The only other task I see that might qualify is Willie raking leaves?

Have a look at Brett's character guide. It is The Simpsons after all, creative explanations are always encouraged. But, yes, Willie is fine. I believe a couple characters have brooms besides Agnes, others have different "tools".

Spring Cleaning on Evergreen Terrace



Marge: Homer, why are you just laying there in the pool? Would you look at this mess? You were the one who blew up this town and were in charge of rebuilding it. Now look at our neighborhood!!!!!! It looks like it got blown up again….wait…it didn’t, did it?

Homer: No of course not

Marge: Well, then why do we have Cletus digging through the trash, still have Christmas decorations on the houses and scattered everywhere, have Barney’s plow truck in front OUR house, AND have the new Valentine’s decorations just thrown haphazardly everywhere?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? (under breath: Not to mention that eyesore that is the Brown House next to us. Why can’t we get some different colored houses)

Homer: Well, first of all, the game company stopped providing us with land updates and we are just out of room to properly place all the new decorations they keep giving us.

Marge: Well, that would account for the NEW decorations, but what about all the Christmas ones you could put away in order to create more room?

Homer: Okay, my sweet, why don’t you take a load off and I will call a few friends to help me clean up our street and get rid of the blight.

Homer (shouting): HEY Old lady that looks like a janitor dude, can you bring your broom? HEY, you, yeah you, the large white furry NPC that literally sent people to Calmwood because they could not win you on the Christmas update’s Wheel of Misery, can you do ANYTHING to make our block better?

Yeti: :sweep: :sweep: :sweep:

Lisa: Hey dad, I can help clean up this radioactive waste. I mean I am sure it has already polluted our water supply, but it’s better late than never.

Homer: Thank you sweetie.




Homer: Okay Marge, is this better? With a little cleaning help from Agnes, the Yeti, Lisa, and my trusty Mr. Plow truck tractor that only goes on the sidewalks, I have performed some urban renewal with this worthless in-game cash I have been earning. I have created a park that creates a romantic mood where we can snuggle on one end with the Valentine’s decorations. At the opposite end, I have set up my Whacking Day training center, just in case those snakes come back. I also clean out the files our basement and found my pink sedan and that giant Olmec head that has been around forever. And I got rid of that eyesore of a brown house and replaced it with a Cool Brown House with easy access to a hot tub. Oh, and Stupid Flanders made himself a love nest.

Marge: Oh Homie, my hero.

1st Annual "Clean up Springfield Day"
All residents were encouraged to clean up the town wherever they thought it was needed.

Willie thought there were too many snakes in town, deciding to kill every single one with his bare hands. Unfortunately, he underestimated the strength of snakes and spent the whole day wrestling just one.

Cletus collected all loose pieces of wood from around town and slowly whittled them all down to be perfect baby gifts for his baby on the way. Recycling, Hillbilly style.

Tom O'Flanagan was busy cleaning all his glasses in preparation for the upcoming St Patricks Day event

Bumblebee Man was getting rid of all the beehives because he was sick of being chased by them. Having no training in dealing with actual bees, he ended up just angering them and being chased all around town

Mayor Quimby thought the town had too much money and was trying to help the residents by getting rid of some of it for them, like any good Mayor would.

Hank Scorpio had the best of intentions, he was going to get rid of the last few zombies that still terrorised Springfield, by burning them. Unfortunately, the zombies had teamed up with Sideshow Bob, and while he had Hank distracted, the zombie snuck up behind him. Hank didn't realise until it was too late, he had no chance.

Lou was cleaning the streets of all the criminals, which was basically just 1 guy. So he spent the rest of the day running around town pretending to catch criminals

Moleman was there to film the exciting event, but a prankster kept knocking him down with a football, luckily Kumiko was also there as a backup to write a story on the event.

Ofcourse there are always the few residents that think Springfield is too clean already and instead use today to mess it up a little.

Krusty took Mr. Teeny for a walk. Encouraging him to throw his poop at anyone that was cleaning.

Mrs. Krabapple and Selma were smoking as much as they could because the air was just too clean.

And as always, Homer thought the whole thing was stupid, and was nowhere to be seen...

Spring cleaning-

Witch Marge is busy brewing an extremely strong cleaner for her neighbors.

Willie and his shack have taken on the job of local laundromat, Willies abs however don't have a delicate cycle.

Mr Burns has excessive amounts of nuclear waste that he wants to hide clean up, but when he started his task he noticed he is dissapointed with how well he hides cleans it up around town.

Homer has really turned his life around with his New Years resolution to be more responsible. He has been following around Mr Burns and disposes of the nuclear waste properly.

Barney has nominated himself to drink clean up the overstock of beer at every bar in town and is now puking cleaning out his stomach.

While there is no more beer to serve because of Barney being so helpful, Tom O'Flanagan has been able to enjoy the warm spring air and wash his beer mugs while "cleaning up" the few extra pounds he put on during the holidays by walking.

After the Spring thaw, the streets of Springfield have been very untidy. Here is where Agnes comes to the rescue. She dons her uniform and get to sweeping the streets.

Chief Wiggum and Eddie are hard at work cleaning the town of criminals.

Mayor Quimby is hoping no one notices him cleaning up the budget for this year.

Howard's Flowers was going out of business and holding a liquidation sale - the fate of the flower shop was unknown.



That is, until the Pet Shop owners bought the shop as a pub. You could have a pint and take your animals to the walking track at the same time!

Normally when it comes to the monthly events I go off to my design town and come up with some idea as I really hate the thought if messing with my main town. This month however in the spirit of redesign I've stayed in my main town. I was considering changing up my valentines walkway so that's what I've done

So I've made the park area a little bigger and I'm really happy with willies shack's new home. Getting characters to the park is challenging but you will find Agnes and Willie there quite happily tending to the new garden.

Times have been hard for Fat Tony recently, Police Chief Wiggum has been cracking down on organised crime. Tony has been forced to hire Barney as his new driver, who after the parking mishap is sleeping it off.




After:
Due to the new St’Patricks day green donut promotion at Lard Lad the local police have more important things to do tasting the new flavour. So it’s back to business has usual in Fat Tony’s compound, He’s gotten the cleaners in and had a bit of a garden makeover.

I was going to get the hot tub but Wiggum eat my 60 donuts too.

I thought about using a secondary account that has trash, but it seemed more appropriate to use my main town for this kind of event. Especially since most of it is quite trashy. I'm not even sure if my after shot is actually better than my before one, heh.

I love those two buildings together. I will have to do some redecorating of my own. Thank you for the idea that I am stealing appropriating repurposing
