You will have all seen that there are forum members who have badges within their profiles. You have probably eyed them with great envy and wished that you could have a few for yourself. The good news is that you can! All you have to do is complete one of the specified forum activities below and one of those much sought after low-quality icons can be yours...
Admin or Staff Nomination
These badges are obtained through staff or admin nominations. Each badge lacks a set list of qualification standards since they predate the formal badge system. Each nomination is handled on a case by case basis.
Award | Elusive Meaning | |
Angel Donut | You´ll need to do a little bit more to earn this holy cake-based treat. It is awarded to those that go above and beyond the call of duty in order to help their fellow forum members. Examples of such behavior include providing helpful information about the game, advice on how someone can improve their design or writing a guide to how you can earn forum badges... This badge first appeared March 4, 2013.
Homer Buddah | This badge is only ever talked about in whispers and few who claim to have seen it. It is the Holy Grail of the forum. To earn it you will have to travel to war-time Germany and then onto a mysterious temple in Petra. Here, you will need to pass through a series of life threatening obstacles that will put both your mind and body fully to the test. Then and only then will you face your final challenge, choosing the right goblet from which to drink from the fountain of life. If you live to tell the tale then you will also get this award. It is this badge more than any other that is much coveted by the one who calls himself President Dude and he will go to any lengths in order to get it. However, as he has yet to even make it to Venice to find the knight of the first crusade in the catacombs under the library, it is safe to say that he will be a while yet. This badge first appeared April 10, 2013
The Mighty Magical Rainbow Unicorn | You could be forgiven for thinking that the Mighty Magical Unicorn award which is rainbow coloured and inspired by the TV show ´Glee´ is for the best homosexual in the forum. It´s not. Here´s how the cast of Glee themselves describe it: Brittany: “Out of all the kids in the school, I think you are the biggest unicorn.” Kurt: “I’m sorry?” Brittany “Well, when a pony does a good deed, he grows a horn and he becomes a unicorn, then he poops out cotton candy until he forgets he’s magical, and then his horn falls off. And black unicorns, they become zebras.” Kurt: “Oh,that’s a terrifying story.” Brittany: “No, it’s not, no, okay, no, the point is, a unicorn is somebody who knows they’re magical and isn’t afraid to show it. You went through hell last year, and you never forgot how special you were." So there you go. This badge first appeared May 16, 2013.
Community Badges | ||
A community badge is a badge that is given or awarded by the community or shows support for the community.
Badge | How to Obtain | |
LGBT Pride Month | This badge celebrates ´Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transexual Pride Month´ of June. The month was chosen as a commemoration of the Stonewall Riots which occurred at the end of June 1969, in Greenwich Village, New York. The riots are widely viewed as a watershed for the gay liberation movement (You can now consider yourselves edumacated). If you are L,G,B or T, or you simply wish to show your support, then you can get this badge from the ´LGBT´ thread, simply by asking for it. This badge was introduced June 1, 2013.
Krusty The Clown Badge | So you think that you´re funny? Then this award will prove it. It requires that you amuse your fellow forum members enough to move them not just to hit that ´like´ button but to ´quote´ your comment and tag "Krusty". Should they find you amusing enough to repeat this process twenty times then you will have more than deserved to join the ´Springfield Friars Club´. I´m not rightly sure what happens once you´ve earned your place in this club but it does have something to do with changing the title within your profile. It would be nice if they offered a cash alternative but I think that the change to your title is the best you´re going to get. This badge was introduced June 1, 2013.
The Golden Krusty | An added incentive, as if one were needed, of getting into the 'Springfield's Friars Club' is this rather lovely Golden Krusty badge. It's almost identical to the Krusty badge but it's golden in colour. Hence the name.
Thumbs Up | You get this badge for a 'job well done'. One must apologise as it is extremely difficult to be more precise about this award and this is the fault of mdfriend. The moderator powers that MD possesses went to his head one day and he started to issue these awards willy-nilly. They're out there now and we can't take them back. So in a nutshell, do something that MD likes and he'll give you a badge. MD, have I ever told you how smart and amusing I find your comments?... Update August 27, 2013: It seems that the Thumbs Up might be one of the easier badges in this category to earn. Simply get someone to nominate you here, and you'll receive a thumbs up. You can also receive multiple thumbs up for multiple nominations. This badge first appeared June 4, 2013.
Participation Badges | ||
A participation badge is defined as a badge that a member must simply be somewhere at the right time or post something somewhere at the right time to obtain.
Badge | How to Obtain | |
Birthday Donut | The birthday donut is the easiest of the badges to win. You will receive one of these by virtue of having been born on any given day that falls in the course of a calendar year provided that you have become a member of this forum and have included this date within your profile. If you don´t have it yet then sit back, relax and it will do the gentlemanly thing and come to you. However, whilst it´s easy to get, you will find it much harder to keep. After a month, it will leave your profile just as fast as it appeared. This badge first appeared March 3, 2013.
Homer Shake | To be honest I am not sure about this one. It may have been a limited edition award or it may still be available. I will quote rsommons who initially explained how it could be won in the ´Photo Challenge: Homer Shake´ thread… Everybody do the Homer Shake! Look at us with a timely photo challenge! We are looking for your best interpretation of the Homer Shake! For this challenge you must submit 3 photos with a common background. Please enter them ALL ON ONE POST (use that edit feature people!). However, you do not need to submit them all at one time, there is no first poster bonus on this challege. Also, no need for lengthy explanations on this challenge, let your pictures speak for themselves. Still scoobied? As am I and this is perhaps one award it´s better just to take a pass on. This award was introduced on March 9, 2013.
Suggestion Cookie | You can get this by making a suggestion on how to improve the forum in the handily titled ´Forum Suggestions´ thread. Actually, thanks to soft-hearted Marge there is almost no quality control going on here and pretty much any suggestion you make will earn you that coveted cookie. This badge was introduced on March 12, 2013.
Duff Beer Mat | A badge that is very easy to earn. All you need to do is pop into the ´Moe´s Tavern´ thread in the ´Couch´ and either order a drink or make some other random comment and then old Moe will take care of the rest. This badge was introduced March 19, 2013.
Knowledge Base | This award is given for writing helpful guides about the game or the forum, such as a guide about badges. This badge first appeared April 13, 2013.
The David | This badge is given for having an artwork image posted in the Springfield Palace of Fine Arts thread. You can do this yourself or what is even nicer is to post an image of something that a neighbour has done. Ask their permission first though or you may find that they move to a new town where their neighbours are a little less presumptuous. This badge was introduced May 16, 2013.
International Corn Day Challenge | In its creator Spider Pig’s own words: This legendary badge, once described by JK Rowling as "the inspiration for the entire Harry Potter series" and by Steve Jobs as "the brains behind Apple", is one that only the bravest may achieve. Those who stare their phone screen in the face and aren't afraid to click the plant button on corn. 90 days enduring the physical and emotional journey that is growing corn, will receive the ultimate reward: Corn, real corn and a pretty cool badge. This badge was introduced June 5, 2013.
Competition badges | ||
Competition badges are earned by winning a game or competition.
Badge | What Competition to Enter
Weekly Photo Challenge Winner | Exactly what it says on the tin. You enter into the weekly photo challenge, you creatively attempt to explain your points score, you argue back and forth for a bit about said point score with the judges, the judges argue back and forth for a bit with each other and after all of this, if you are lucky enough to be declared the winner, this badge is yours. This badge was introduced February 26, 2013.
The Golden Camera | This is perhaps the most difficult of all the badges to win. In order to get it, you need to win the 'Photo Challenge' not only once but on five separate occasions. Sounds impossible? Well, one fella did. Went by the name of Ankarstroom. Seven feet tall he was, with arms like tree trunks. His eyes were like steel, cold, hard. Had a shock of hair, red like the fires of Hell...
Key to the City | In order to win this particular badge you must first enter your game designs into the ´Forumfield´ weekly competition. You will then be judged by your peers who will vote for the designs they like the best before going through another round of evaluation by the official forum judges. The official judges will apply their own combination of science and magic to decide upon an overall winner. If it is you then you´ll not only get the award but access to Forumfield itself. A grand prize indeed. This badge was introduced March 6, 2013.
The Homer | It´s another prize and you can only receive it by becoming a winner in the ´Off the Map´ competition. This competition has the exact same format as the aforementioned Forumfield but with the added twist that you will need to design something and this is completely unlike Forumfield...ehrm...where you need to design something. The badge is also in the shape of a car which if you´re a man will help you impress young girls and if you are a young girl will help you be impressed. This badge was introduced May 15, 2013.
Jebediah Statue | You will get this by achieving ´1 kill´ in the ´Springfield Rumble´. This game is a lot like ´Dungeons and Dragons´ without the dungeons or the dragons. To be honest, I´ve never played Dungeons and Dragons but if I had, I imagine it would be a lot like the Springfield Rumble. This badge was introduced May 27, 2013.
Gummi Venus de Milo | The badge awarded for those who actually win the monthly art competition that can be found on the dedicated 'SPOFA' subforum. This is the badge that you want. It shows that your artwork is better than everyone else's. Which stands it apart from the aforementioned 'The David Award' that it renders the equivalent of a badge given by teachers to students who have no discernible talent but whom the teacher does not wish to feel have been left out I.e. your shit but cheer up as here's a shiny badge. This badge was introduced June 25, 2013.
The Lenny | This badge was initially introduced as the prize for winning the writing contest. However, it remains available but you will have to jump through several hoops to get it. You still need to write a story but now you also need to animate it with a comic strip, a storyboard or at the very least, a triptych. You should probably have just entered the contest... December 17, 2013 Revision: You can now also earn a Lenny Badge by entering into one of the Springfield Anthology contests. This badge was introduced July 2, 2013.
Sherlock Holmes (Whodunnit?) | In order to earn this badge, you will need to put all of your detective skills and powers of deduction to the test in the 'Whodunit Wednesday' challenge thread. Correctly name the criminal, weapon and scene of the crime before anyone else and this badge is yours. Alternatively, you can arrive late and let others do the donkey work for you or even get lucky with a wild guess. This badge was introduced July 7, 2013.
Monopoly Mondays | One of these top hats signifies your status as a high roller of the forum who is worth millions of dollars and an invaluable asset to the community. You get chaffered around in a Rolls Royce, you own a mansion down in Malibu for the winter and have a summer vacation home on an island, that you also own. Your family's company is worth billions and you are the next in line for the CEO throne... Okay, maybe not, but having one of these top hats certainly does signify that you have won a round of Monopoly Monday. This badge was introduced October 14, 2013.
Staff Badges | ||
The are badges that are worn proudly by the members of the staff around these parts to signify their importance.
Badge | Who Has It | |
Stonecutters Club (The Moderators) | This badge is given to those hard working people who keep this forum running. When us reprobates get out of hand it is they who are there to sort us out. If we need to cry then it is on their shoulders that we cry on. If we write a comment that it is a little too smutty then it is they who PM us to tell us that they´ve taken it down and to grow up a bit. They´re a bit like the mother you never had. It´s a thankless job. Well, it isn´t you get this badge for doing it.
Retirement Home (Retired Moderators) | This badge is given to forum contributors once they are passed their useful shelf-life and are forced to step down from their duties. This award replaces the previous award that they held showing their position within the forum. Just like we do with the elderly, we strip them off all of their assets and send them to the retirement home. It´s for their own good, of course.
Soup Can (the Art Department) | Exactly as it says on the paint pot tin. This badge is for members of the forum´s Art Department who have created all of the great awards that you can see here. They created this one for themselves which is fair enough when you think about it.
Ron Swanson (Pics and Recreation) | The people in this forum that design the games that give you these badges. Some would use the word ´Gods´. Those people would not be wrong.
Limited Time Badges | ||
These are badges that are or were available for a limited time only.
Badge | How it Was Obtained
Christmas in July | For those who like to empty their sacks more than just once a year. To get this badge, you´ll have to complete a winter related task with the clever twist that you will have to do it in a summer month. Of course, the clever twist completely ignores the fact that Christmas is always celebrated in the summer months if you happen to live in the southern hemisphere. You can find further instructions in the thread ´Celebrate Christmas in July´. This badge was awarded in the month of July and is no longer available. This badge was introduced July 1, 2013.
Hullabalooza | If you think you’ve got what it takes to make your very own Homerpaloooza in your Springfield, head over to ‘Hullabalooza’ thread and show your stuff. This badge was award in the month of August and is no longer available. This badge was introduced August 1, 2013.
Six Month Badge | This badge was given to those who participated in the 6 month anniversary thread or the 6 month anniversary badge thread. This badge was given out exclusively on August 24, 2013 after the winning design was chosen.
25 Seasons | This badge is the September monthly event badge (it was three days late, mind you). To obtain it, head on over to the remake thread and read the rules and see if you can figure out how to obtain this seemingly arbitrarily given badge. Pssst... I've heard that even though the event is called "The Remake," you can't remake a scene that someone already remade. This badge was only available for the month of September and is no longer available. This badge was introduced September 3, 2013.
Pirate Flag | 'Tis was a one day badge done spontaneously without warnin' ('n probably without much plannin'). On SeptembARrrrr 19, which was "Speak Like a Scurvy Pirate Day," ye had to be off to 'tis thread 'n meet th' kookoo bananas requirements set forth by th' Pics 'n Recreation team. Then, ye were awarded wit' th' grand prize 'o th' Scurvy Pirate Flag.
Vigilantly Justice | This badge requires you to work in a team (gasp). One of you creates the crime scene, the other creates the vigilantly style justice which features Fruitbat man bringing down the crooks (or failing to do so). Are you game? Then head over to the Vigilante Justice thread and partner up. This badge was offering in October 2013 and is no longer available. This badge was introduced October 1, 2013.
Thanksgiving Parade | Want to get involved in some USA style festivities and cheer this November? Then head over to the Thanksgiving Day Parade thread and submit your floats to be included into TSTOForum's version of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This badge was introduced November 1, 2013.
Badgecember | The badges below were part of the Badge Extravaganza hosted by Pics and Rec during December. You can click on each badge to be taken to it's respective thread to learn how it was obtained.
A Year In Comics | For this badge you have to make a comic of your Springfield Residents acting out their New Year's Resolutions and either succeeding or failing at them. These badges were introduced January 1, 2014.
Retired Badges | ||
These are badges that were officially retired for unknown reasons.
Badge or Award | How it Was Obtained
Red Pill | A ´Matrix´ based event where the poster must decide on whether to take a red pill or a blue pill. One acts as a downer and the other an upper. You choose the one that suits you best and explain why this is so on the ´Red Pill or Blue Pill´ thread. Our resident drug dealers then manipulate the Matrix and the stated pill magically appears on your profile. This badge was introduced May 18, 2013.
Blue Pill | A ´Matrix´ based event where the poster must decide on whether to take a red pill or a blue pill.
Purple Pill | In retaliation to only being able to choose in a binary system, someone decided "Forget the Matrix" and made this lovely gem. This badge appeared after a glitch in the Matrix on August 13, 2013.
Buzz Cola | To obtain a buzz cola, simply get someone to tage you in this thread and a wonderful can of caffeine will be hand delivered to your profile. This badge was introduced June 11, 2013.
Pill Bottle | This badge signifies the end of the Pill Game, according to D'oh-tastrophe Inc.. Oh my! Due to an oversight on the part of... Well, we don't really know who, but there has been an oversight and it seems that it is illegal to let all of you run around with pills without a proper container. As a result, all pills will now be placed into Child Safe Pill Bottles that are a major pain in the ass to open. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you to everyone who took part in the pill game. We hope that it brought you laughter, tears, and fond memories. This badge first appeared on September 4, 2013 and was officially given out September 13, 2013.
Premium Badges | ||
Premium Badges | If you have your own idea for a badge or wish to give that someone special the opportunity to design their own badge then you can do so. All we ask in return is for your cold hard cash. You can find out what you need to do on the 'Premium Badge' thread. All proceeds earned from this are for the benefit of the community. Well, that is of course after Proboards have paid Spiff her commission. All premium badges are denoted by a dollar sign in their bottom right hand corner. |
