I see people making other forum member names clickable links. Also lets them know they have been tagged as it were in profile notifications.
How?

By hovering over their username above the avatar, to find out the correct one, then typing the @ sign before it.
EDIT: Actually I see that the @ is included when you hover over the username. Just type that and it'll be clickable.

And on touchscreen devices (for which hovering may not be an option), I click the tagging button and start typing in the user's name in the pop-up window (shown below). This brings up a list of similar usernames, and I click the one I want. It then is automatically inserted into the message.

And in the app you can see a user's @ name by tapping their post and then tapping quote. Their @ name will be in the quote tag at the beginning of the message.
It's slightly less convenient, like most things are in the app, but gets the job done without having to load the website.

lakooo - I had no idea you could do that! Bananas. Me either, but I read this on my iPad, and the icons are too small for my fingers. invariably hit the wrong one, so I just hand code all but a few of the more complex emoticons. lakooo shouldn't you be tearing up the east coast in a blow out party?

Just another thing to point out if you're on mobile. If the user you want to tag has a nickname (H1 for example), you can click the link to their profile and it will tell you what to write to tag them. For example to tag H1 you will do @roadblok so it will look like this IDGAFF

Hey Karin! Some of us - like yourself - have a username that is different than our display name. My full username is Spiffshine, so to tag me you have to use "@ spiffshine" (without the space) because @spiff just will not work. To tag you, all I need is "@ karin" without the "(as myself)" bit. If the username/display name are different, you can view the person's profile, hover over their name, use a tagging button... read up a few posts for a few suggestions.

I'm thinking I must be really dumb because I've been here for a while now and I still can't find this mystery 'tagging button'... not that it's a problem since I just type out the tag, but if there's an easier way of tagging I'd love to know... -emoticon

It is the one that looks like a user icon with a '@' next to it.

Spiffshine, you can use the actual code by wrapping it in the code block. @spiffshine . This is the button with the C on it. Or just be like me and type it all out. And then edit the inevitable spelling and auto correct created errors.

I know A Bad Example, I have done so many times... but here I just wanted to type conversationally and in-line with the rest of the text. You see my dilemma?
