Treehouse of Horrors Guide to Tapping
Okay, so we have a new year of TSTO Halloween Spooktacular and it is by far the most complicated event in terms of how many different event currencies there are. So here is your ultimate guide to tapping to ensure you receive all your prizes and do not get too frustrated. I hope this helps you and if I missed something, please kindly tell me and I will add it, or if you are confused, let me know and I will try to explain better.

Currencies:
The currencies each serve a difference purpose, so we are going to break them down into two categories: Personal Prizes and Crafting Prizes
Personal Prizes:
These prizes are more like we are used to. You collect this currency and then you are awarded personal prizes once you reach that threshold. The twist this year is that there are 3 of them, but each only work for a certain part of the event and each achieve a different set of prizes
Probes: This is the first currency you earn once the event begins. There are 10 “prizes” you can earn by collecting probes. I use quotation marks because 8 of the prizes are merely gold and silver treat bag (more on this later). There are only 2 actual prizes to be had. The Mutant Peacock (3,250 probes) and the Donut Torture Device (8,050 probes)
Ray Guns: This set of 10 “Prizes” does not unlock until October 20 (apparently this is EA’s way of making sure people do not finish the event in the first week). Like the probes, collecting Ray Guns unlocks 8 gold and silver treat bags and 2 prizes: the Bulldozer-saurus (2,825 ray guns) and the Hover-Copter (7,100 ray guns).
Long Protein Strings (LPS): This set of 10 “Prizes” does not unlock until October 31. Like the other two, LPS unlocks 8 gold and silver treat bags and 2 prizes: the DIET sign (6,000 LPS) and the U.B.O. (14,000 LPS)
Note: After you achieve all your personal prizes, you will have the opportunity to earn a silver treat bag for every 750 currency you earn
Note 2: As always you can use donuts to just “Get it Now”
How to earn them:
The main method of earning these three currencies is to tap young Rigellian aliens roaming around town (you get 2 currencies per tap, 3 if they are wrapped around a citizen’s face, and 3 if you have a Rigellian Hunting License). They spawn at a rate of 1 every 5 minutes and your town can hold 50 at a time (meaning your town will be full after 4:10). You also can tap up to 3 tap young Rigellian aliens while visiting your friends (you get 2 currencies per tap, 3 if they are wrapped around a citizen’s face, and 3 if you have a Rigellian Hunting License). Note: EA capped this by only allowing you to receive currency for the first 90 actions per day. However, if you keep tapping all your neighbors you do have the chance to get a random donut
A second method is to release and/or tap gremaliens. EA brought back the gremlins from last Halloween. If you see a gremalien roaming around your town, tap it and you will get When tapping the young Rigellian aliens you will always get the currencies, but will also receive gremalien eggs occasionally as well (you can also purchase eggs from the store for donuts). These can be released in other people’s towns to scavenger for probes. If your neighbor does not tap your release gremalien within 4 hours you get 4 currencies. If they do tap it, you both get 2 currencies. There seems to be a glitch on this like the Elixir glitch from the CoC event. If you release all your gremalien egg, close out of the app without returning to your SF, and do not log back in until the 4 hours has expired, you will receive the full 4 currency per egg released (and your neighbor would have received 2 for every one they tapped). Note: a town can only hold 10 gremaliens at a time
A third way is to shoot down UFO’s in friends towns (more on this later). When you shoot down a UFO you may earn 50 probes at once (or other prizes)
Note: another way to get more young Rigellian aliens is to purchase “Portal to Rigel 7” buildings for 100 donuts. These spawn 6 young Rigellian aliens every 8 hours
Crafting Prizes:
This is something new. The first thing you do when you start the Halloween event is to build the Make-A-Thing Store. If you tap on it you will get a popup box to “Craft” (or you can tap the Ray Gun icon in the top right corner of the screen).
Inside the store you will find various prizes you can craft after you have collected the necessary items. These various items include:
Broken fence
Egg
Candy Corn
Gummy Bear
Chocolate Bar
Pumpkin
Broken Nail
In order to craft the prizes you have to collect various amounts of the treats. For example, once prize is the spooky wall. In order to get this prize for free (meaning you do not “get it now” via donuts) you will have to collect 20 eggs, 25 candy corn, and 10 pumpkins. After you collect the necessary items you the status bar will turn green and you can click “Craft Now.” Then you will be given the choice to place the item or store the item.
Please note: when you craft prize the items used to craft it are deducted from your collection totals (these are not threshold prizes). Therefore my advice would be to make walls last, and make sure you get the bigger prizes first
The prizes you can earn:
Board with nail: this is the first one you do in the tutorial and can be upgraded by earning more broken nails. Upgrading allows for a larger splash tap radius to take out more young Rigellian aliens at a time.
Grand Pumpkin: After you unlock this prize you will then unlock the chance to craft the Pumpkin house (you can only craft one of these)
Pumpkin House: This is the same house that came with Suzanne the Witch. However, for this event you can craft multiples and they earn 1 pumpkin treat every 24 hours.
Hugo: Bart’s no-so-evil twin brother. After unlocking him you can then craft the Spooky House (after part 5 of his quest line).
Spooky House: This cool looking building has a joint Hugo task, can be built in multiples, and earn 1 gold treat bag every 24 hours
Spooky Wall: returning from last year and you can craft multiples
Human Test Subject: You can build multiples of this sciency tube. Check your inventory, as I found one already in it, apparently finding one randomly while tapping
Rigellian Queen: If you look she is not available yet to craft. This decoration will be unlocked at a later date.
Rigellian Tribal Hut: Like the queen, this is not available yet to craft. This decoration will be unlocked at a later date.
Rigellian Shrub: This one as caused some consternation among players. It is technically craft-able, but never seems to show up on the list. However, many players, including myself, have found it in our inventory, meaning we received it while tapping away and just did not realize it. My advice, check your inventory.
How you earn items:
You obtain the 7 items from either shooting down a UFO or, more commonly, from trick or treating tasks. Sending kids of trick or treating tasks as the payout of a treat bag. You can send Lisa, Bart, Martin, Milhouse, Nelson, Ralph, Todd, Rod, Dolph, Jimbo, Kearney, Shauna, Sherri & Terri, Squeaky Voice Teen, and Witch Marge. Regular characters earn either a Bronze, Silver, or maybe a Gold Treat Bag (their tasks take 8 hours). Premium characters (take 16 hours) and earn either a Silver or Gold Treat Bag. Uter and Database can also earn Treat bags for their special tasks. After completing the task, you will click the Ray Gun in the top right corner and you can open the treat bags to see what items you found.
Note: You will have a permanent “send 10 kids trick or treating” and “open 10 treat bags” ongoing throughout the event. This is normal and helpful as it makes it easy to find you kids. All you have to do is tap the icon and if it says done you can click "go to" and it will take you to the next kid
You will also occasionally get a treat bag from tapping young Rigellian aliens as well.
You can also purchase treat bags from the store for donuts
UFO’s in Friends Towns:
After completing Step 3 of the walkthrough Frink will tell you to shoot down a UFO in a friends town with the Ammo you found. After this, you will randomly see a UFO while visiting. Every town does not have one. When you shoot down a UFO you will earn one of many prizes. Here are the current odds:
29%: 50 probes (or future active currency)
20%: bronze treat bag
10%: 25 candy corn
10%: silver treat bag
10%: gold treat bag
10%: 50 gummy bear
5%: 20 chocolate bar
5%: 20 pumpkin
1%: 30 donuts
In order to obtain Ammo to shoo them down, you can either by more from the store for donuts (5 ammo is 15 donuts), you earn 1 Ammo every 8 hours from the Ray Gun in your town, or if you tap on the UFO in your friend’s town without Ammo you will be prompted to either ignore or purchase 1 Ammo for 5 donuts.
(Note: there was a glitch in this the first 3 days of the event where you could just keep tapping the screen after shooting down a UFO and, while it would take Ammo from your inventory, you could keep shooting it down and earn prizes. That has since been patched)
Final note: All previous Halloween items are back and available for purchase for donuts. If you do not see an item that you do not have, be patient, as some items will be added later this month (ex. Super Collider is supposed to be re-released on October 31).
