Is this an event that will end, like Valentine's Day, or just new element to the game? Travelling so can't download yet and don't want to miss out on prizes.

You can't stack handshakes on the stage, farm, or Channel 6.
I tried, items that are tapped do no regenerate for tapping. I have a few things I left uncleared last night. By this evening, should know if they become available after 24 hours.
There is no mop for cleaning graffiti. If you've seen one, that town has probably not been updated.

I am really wondering about that "regenerated after 24 hours" thing. I would think that EA would not limit us, but as I read elsewhere, perhaps this is EA's way of making us get rid of abandoned towns

Abandoned towns that get visitors would be a drain on resources. No visitors, resource hit is gone. It is also possible that they can't delete abandoned towns that have active friends. That would be poor programming, but it is EA.

Leaving the handshake at the SP shouldn't be a problem when you're maxed out.
So don't tap it, it'll maybe come back!

What's wrong with leaving the handshake when you're maxed out just in case it comes back? Nothing, cause you can't build any more!

Abandoned towns that get visitors would be a drain on resources. No visitors, resource hit is gone. It is also possible that they can't delete abandoned towns that have active friends. That would be poor programming, but it is EA. I am not sure if that is true or not. Last February when I created my initial 5 feeder towns that I used get the Valentine's items (2013), I neglected them entirely from the end of February until Whacking Day started and I realized they would be useful/necessary egg droppers. When I went to log back into each of the towns I was sent to the opening scene of Homer blowing up Springfield. I had to start over again. All during that 2-3 month period I had been visiting those towns from my main town (I just never logged into the feeder towns). I had lost all my progress on the feeder towns and only my Origin login info remained. Now, after WD was over, I again did not touch my feeder towns all summer, not until like August or September, but this time I had started to grow corn before my last log in. When I finally got around to logging in again, I expected my game to be reset again, but to my surprise, they were just the way I had left them. The only difference was that I had started growing the on-going task of corn growing. So, I surmise that as long as there is no log in action within a certain number of days/months, that EA does "wipe" the town clean, no matter if they receive neighbor traffic or not. Does anyone else care to elaborate?

And if there was a 90 day task running, you had not abandoned the town yet. The abandon all hope counter shouldn't have started until after corn wilted.

Between Feb-May, I did not log into the town, but did visit them from my main town. I did not have corn growing (thus being "abandoned"). Between July-Sept, I had corn growing and therefore it was not abandoned yet as I logged in before the corn had finished growing. You are right, EA should be able to delete abandoned towns, and I would think that 90 days of inactivity would be sufficient. Perhaps then they can give us new land

That makes sense, as it would take up server space. I do wish they would increase the item cap, especially if we get more land, since I am stilling at 7200 in my main town currently (and I do not have trash or unnecessary hidden decos behind buildings)

I don't know if they will do either, but maybe this friendship point scheme does have to do with getting rid of abandoned towns, which might allow for both.

They have increased land three times and not raised the cap. The amount of land is nothing. It's just a bit if code. And the amount you have does not change the storage required to keep it. The number of items does impact resources. Not by a lot, but the numbers add up when you consider the number of towns.

So maybe we will be seeing a Cool Lisa skin added as a prize in the near future. And does anyone recognize the red hat with springy starts on it?
