Notification of message recieved - keeps showing

For about four days I've had the number 1 showing above Messages. It does change when I get new ones, but once I've read them it changes back to the number 1. It's no biggie, but if any have suggestions of how to fix this, I will appreciate it

I ofc have tried logging off and have tried looking through messages to see if I missed one.

Click on the actual bubble with the number one and it should go away.
