What are the Awards & Badges I see under people's avatars?

There are three types of Awards & Badges. Ok, here we call them badges. Nobody uses the term Award.
The first of these are badges can be purchased from Proboards, and gifted to other members. Or if you are Peruhomer, you give them to yourself. You can do this by going to the members profile, clicking on the gift tab, and then clicking the button for the badge store. They price runs $2 to $5, US.
The second type of badge are Forum Badges. These are awarded for participation in the community. They can be for anything from posting in the Moe's Tavern thread to participating in the Springfield Palace of Fine Arts contests to joining the staff or one of the committee's that put the fun in (dis)functional here.

The final type of badge is the Premium Badge. These are badges that users pay for, with the proceeds going towards removing the ads from the forum. This post by Ol' Gil Gunderson explains how you can get your own badge created; and shows the ones that already exist.
