I have no problem connecting over home wifi or 3G on my phone (until yesterday, that is *harp*harp*), but trying to connect using the Verizon mobile hotspot brings up the Bart screen every time on any device. Verizon says it's not on their end. And, of course, there's no point in trying to contact EA about it.
Anyone else have this problem?

It's probably one of three things: 1) Verizon is actively filtering something that the game relies on (either at the wifi hotspot, as part of their network management, etc) 2) EA is blocking traffic from the range of IP's that the Verizon hotspots are on (assuming they are on a specific Verizion IP range isolated from Verizon phones which do seem to work just fine) 3) There is something specific about the quality of the hotspot connection that the game just doesn't like (speed, latency, etc.) It's probably number 3. I have a commercial wifi setup I administer at one place and I have a game - Fluxx (awesome game - especially if you like card games and chaos!) - that for whatever reason refuses to load on it. Tapped Out loads just fine. I haven't bothered to look into it to see if I can figure out what it doesn't like about that particular wifi setup, but stuff happens. Networking can be pretty intricate and when you add on wifi as another layer of complexity things can get interesting and complicated really quick.

My Verizon hotspot was the only way I could play when not on wifi when I had an iPhone 4. Once I got my iPhone 5 the 4G LTE speeds have been fast enough to play without issues when I am away from home.
You may have an issue with your hotspot or poor coverage in your area though, as my game runs perfectly on my Verizon hotspot.
