The town needs a revamp but I'm way over the level limit and have all premium items

It's donuts and money, but I imagine its random what you get like homer buddha or the normal mystery boxes

A very useful guide. I'm still interested in how Lisa's quest to release snakes in other towns works, i.e. does it have any impact to that player's town (releases snakes for them to whack or decreases the snakes for them to whack) or just for that player's friends (i.e. you and others can now whack snakes in that town once you have the license).

I've got no proof as yet to be "released upon" but when i send Lisa on the quest I see all my friends totals so far

Yup.

Duder has a guide up on the EA forums with a lot of the quests up. Turns out I won't be able to get them here until Sunday.

Some observations (not proven) about "losing" snakes entering others towns:

There seems to be some condition where some of your snakes are released when you are visiting a neighbor. You'll hear a hiss (I think) and then your snake total drops. This drop matches the total you can whack, plus whatever your license is. That is, with the standard 5 license, your total drops 5, and there are 10 snakes to whack. I think this occurs when the owner (or someone?) is in the town as I've see the leprechaun running like crazy a few times when this happened.

So, it seems like you don't lose snakes, nor can you whack more than your license, but under some conditions some of your snakes are released and you have to recapture.

Basically I've taken to noting my snake total before entry to a town, and if it drops I look for more than the standard 5 snakes to whack...

It's a real pain in the rear to find all of them in some of the larger towns too...

HELP, I'm missing all the fun! Ipod ran the update, got the snakey graphic at start-up, but no option/icon to go into whack-mode. What should I do? (I see no snakes at all... *sniff*)

The update came out a few days ago and most people sped up Homer and Lisa's tasks to get straight into the fun.

Yes, Homer and Lisa need to finish the tasks before the instructions to the update appear. Once they are finished, a pop up will show up to tell you how to participate. It's lots of fun once you actually get into it.
