Use an outline object/border tool. The white outline should be 2 pixels, grey should be 1 (I think) I have no idea what I am doing lol... What program are you using?

You need to open up the layer styles (right click the layer and click 'blending options' or double click the layer and it should come up) then check 'stroke' and from the options select 2px as the size, the position as outside and change the color to white. That should give you the white border. For the grey one to make it easier, I would just save the image as a transparent PNG and then re-open it and repeat the stroke process with 1px as the size and the color as grey (#AAAAA). I use Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC so I'm not sure it's the same process but it should be. Edit: If you still can't get it just ask the lovely people at the art department to help you

how about a badge that will remind use waiting for the x mass up date like that has homer waiting for the xmas update. How about another badge waiting for the next update. I can think of some many othters.
