LSLeong I worked in 10x10 squares. I think it's about 10 squares across and 8 1/2 down. It probably takes up about 1/5 of the total land. I can no longer lay road, pavement, or water and I crash if I move faster than a snail's pace. I just can't wrap my head around how you laid everything out. I went to visit your town just so I could see it up close It's such a vast area. And with no way to zoom out, you're pretty much taking a guess when you put things down. Or did you graph everything first? I don't want to appear partial, but it's friggin' amazing!

Or did you graph everything first? I don't want to appear partial, but it's friggin' amazing! I could say that I am just an amazing free hand picture designer, but that would be a lie. I'm actually surprised you could get into my town. I am really only able to get into it ever third try or so. To make the initial template I used a tool designed to map embroidery patterns. It allows you to adjust the resolution and size of the image. This image is on the second to largest size setting and the lowest resolution. The final product is (I think) 100x75. I knew the pop art style would work best, but I did try a couple of other images. I like your Picasso suggestions, I may try something cubist next. Then I worked in rows divided into four sections. I put it together in 50x10 blocks at a time. I tried 10x10, but you really can't tell what the image looks like that small so it became really frustrating. There's quite a bit of adjusting for the game's perspective and some trial and error that goes into the combination of objects used. A Bad Example and I have created a new town for the purpose of trying to create this kind of art without disrupting our primary towns. In the future I'll use that town instead of my own since it has no other decoration. I honestly didn't know what it would look like until it was stitched together. It will probably be a few weeks before I have the time to start another one. I'll do a step by step walk though when we figure our what image to use. It's not really that hard to do, it's just time consuming and really kind of expensive.

So apparently I posted in the wrong thread... El Barto strikes again Edit: uhh why does my grass look florescent? It doesn't look like that on my computer or photobucket. Only on this forum. Odd

Fraggle, what tool do you speak of that lays things out for embroidery? I desperately need one. I tried to do a modest Marge design in my town and rediscovered my artistic ineptitude! And then you go and do THIS! Amazing. I kept crashing when trying to visit, so I'm glad you posted your art.
Beautiful work.

Fraggle your Lichtenstein is extraordinary! Well done. I am curious as to how a normal size picture looks of your work. Just an average zoom, single screenshot. thiink you might post that too? Very impressive. The ante has been upped!

I really wanted to post this on both threads because I'm not sure how many people are following the link to this one, but I can't find the other one on my phone. Many apologies to anyone who has tried to visit my town over the last week or so. There may no longer be an item cap, but there is a definite limit on how many items you can have in one town. Here is my rendition of a Roy Lichtenstein. I'm a red head so I figured it was more appropriate. Fraggle - that is just extraordinary - WOW!!!

Aww shucks, thanks everyone. The other night, while sitting at a bar, I was trying to show some of my friends what I was working on. They just asked me if it was time to go to the Waffle House. There are so many creative people here. I feel some of the credit for this project should go to keys1980 and Peruhomer since they are just a couple of my neighbors who have inspired me with their non-traditional uses of broken dryers and newspaper boxes. And now I can finally finish watching the last few episodes of Arrested Development.

Lol it's going to take me forever maybe never to even attempt something that could rival that. Wow. On a side note I too attempt to show off my handiwork to some ppl who don't play the game. It's lost on them as well. That's why this forum is so fantastic. We can properly geek out here

rsommons were you thinking something like this? Here are a couple of shots I used to make the larger stitch. The first one has Apu to the left. He gives you some idea of the scale. I just started looking at the photo contest thread for this week, so cool. I think I may try to make my next art project something that could be paneled in a similar fashion.

FraggleThe scale of it is mind boggling. With my ipad I can only fit a single eye on my screen totally zoomed out. My giant homer almost fits entirely into one screen totally zoomed out and once upon a time I thought it was huge! Lol my ipad has to do some serious thinking before your town loads and I had to take your advice on the slow scroll, tried to go to fast my first visit and crashed. Seems you have found the razors edge on the scale. Any bigger and I wonder if you would just get locked out of town entirely? Or just crash every two seconds if you could get in. Fine work frag and thanks for doing it. Don't know that I could do anything that big but at least now I know what's possible.

Stunning, absolutely stunning.

Lol I no u seen what I made I'm just glad I was able to win an award. If it was kept up to the standards of the artist on here I would have gotten a Barney bag award cuz mine looks like that's were I pulled it from. You guys really deserve a Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Vango award.
