I get one kick at the can on this bad boy, since I only have the escalator.
Granted, anyone who checked out my Duff Brewery entry from last week's already knows where my escalator is.

Would it be better to do these buildings at a later point in time, so more people have the chance to get them and participate? I'm sure most people here have most or all of the regular buildings, so starting off with the Burns Manor wasn't as much of a hindrance to participation, but these vanity items are only owned by the longest playing (or glitch using) users. Or is that the point? To weed out the young guns? lol

Eh, we've kinda been arbitrarily picking out themes (with the exceptions of Drink Tank since it tied into Saint Patrick's day). If we aren't seeing a good response (meaning most posters go "Aw, shucks, I can't enter") by Friday we'll shift gears. Thanks for the input Duder. Lamson, if your brewery wins the Escalator to Nowhere will be included with that particular design, thus excluding it from this competition. However, if it doesn't win the current theme, you wouldn't be able to win this weeks as Forumfield can only get one Duff Brewery. You're still welcome to enter, though. Or redesign it and enter. There will be plenty more opportunities for you, and everyone, so don't get discouraged!

Doesn't bother me to have a category/week that I don't yet have the requisite buildings for. It is still interesting to see the entries & in the large scope of the forumfield project it will eventually come up no matter when. (In 2 months there will be new players don't have "X" building yet). Keep it rolling and let people jump in when they can.

I agree it is a little early to have the big money items, however, someone just give keys1980 a key to the city for his escalator. I think maybe roughly following the roll out order of the buildings could be a good way to go.

While I am on board with just letting it roll, ultimately, we want to be as inclusive as possible. It's always more fun with more competition. Not to mention, if a lot of people are in on that competition, I bet we'd see a lot of interesting designs. To that end, we'll see where the consensus lies.

I recognize that following the TSTO building rollout would be most inclusive to the newbies, we need to keep it fresh for the veterans & doing themes is a part of that... As has been mentioned, the FFP is a work in progress. When I posited the idea & d'ohinc agreed to build it, the idea was simple enough, but on the daily, it becomes a more daunting task... But damn, it's gonna be awesome when it's done!

And as jehenyen said, rolling them out in roughly a game-chronological order makes sense too. Lets the votes fall where they may.

Duff Dawg, I think we're going to push this theme back. Since it is such a big ticket theme, I'm willing to propose to the committee that we make a set date for this contest to run and announce it in the Big Picture thread to give everyone who wants to compete a chance to save up for at least one of the items. jehenyen ninja; We initially thought of a chronological roll out (too narrow), and then a categorical roll out (hence the random consumerism, residential, etc threads, but it ended up being too broad) but then decided to do everything theme based to narrow the playing field and keep it somewhat broad at the same time. The first theme, Burns v Simpsons was a great place to start since you start out with the Simpsons house, but it also gave competitors an option to showcase something they may have put a lot more time and effort into. I'm not saying people don't put time and effort into their Simpsons houses, but let's face it, a lot of us have put a lot of effort into our Burn's Manors to make them lavished and dignified, while the Simpsons house has been pretty much in the same spot since day 1 and has since got a little back yard and some fence and/or hedge work. So, that allowed us to show off some crown jewels and get a building that may be considered a little boring out of the way (although I was blown away and nicely surprised by the Simpsons' houses I saw). Forumfield has come a long way since kidENO posted the concept thread back in February (the 25th I believe). It started with him, then grew and included myself and rsommons, and then finally grew and became part of what the Photo Challenge Committee oversees. The project will never get out of "beta" phase, so to speak, meaning that things will have to be tweaked and changed as we go along, but the basic structure will stay the same, as with the Photo Challenges. Feedback like this helps us see where we need to tweak things and where we need to step back and let things play out. Such as this theme, so far we have an overwhelming response to pull back and do something simpler, which is fine with me and I believe fine with kidENO because we want to let as many people get a chance to get in on Forumfield as possible. Right now, TSTO has a little over 40 buildings (excluding Halloween, V-Day, and Christmas) which means 40 potential spots for people to make a claim in Forumfield. While we are not barring previous winners from competing again, we want as many people as possible to get one of those 40 slots. Yea, I know, TL;DR. And I wish we could just give keys1980 the key, but he didn't consent to having his design redone. Maybe if you can convince him to keep that design around until we officially launch this theme we can see how the votes turn out.

D'oh-tastrophe Inc. - that makes a lot of sense. I was just tossing out an idea willy-nilly. I think the project is great. I'm very dorkily proud of that little key. I think that ongoing projects like Forumfield and the photo competition are going to be some of the things that keep people returning to this forum.

That's the hope and game plan, jehenyen. We'll discuss a better time for this theme. For now, stay tuned. kidENO will be coming at us with the first, and hopefully last, Thursday Heads Up! Be on the lookout for it.

Yeah exactly, Forumfield and the photo challenge are probably my favorite things about this forum. I don't mind having an off-week, I only have the escalator and still haven't done anything with it, but I doubt I was ever going to have a good design for it regardless what week its done.
