Do you have any tips or tricks for players? Some of my friends didn't know these, so I thought I'd share and maybe learn new stuff in the process.
1) You can zoom in & out slightly by pinching or pulling the screen with two fingers (like in a map app). Sometimes this can help when looking for characters.
2) Another tip to help find stragglers is to enable the edit mode (the four way arrow). Tap on the icons to hide buildings and decorations. Characters are much easier to find this way.
3) Enabling edit mode will also freeze any cash or XP collection. This is a good trick to help you count how much of a payout a particular building has. Just tap the $, then enter edit mode, and you can collect/count the payout at your leisure.
4) Collect from brown houses first! Since they regenerate the fastest, there's a good chance they'll be ready again by the time you're done setting your quests. This applies to the Simpson house, Flanderseses, and the Kwik E Mart as well. Although it might not seem like much, doubling the take from these places per visit adds up.
What do you recommend?

My tips for newer users are:
1. After collecting from a building, don't quickly tap the $$ and XP. This is how most people accidentally speed up buildings/tasks and lose donuts. Let the $$/XP collect automatically.
2. When visiting friends, don't tap on the $$ and XP after you collect from the buildings. Hit the "friends" button again, and the $$/XP/other stuff will automatically collect and save you some time. You also receive the 25 bonus XP for collecting from your friends.
(Edited to add you get the friends 25 bonus XP.)

Not really a tip or a trick, but some advice for new users. Do not try to rush through the game. You WILL get to the highest level at some point, and then you will be waiting with bated breath for the next update, which never comes soon enough!!

When doing it this way, do you not miss out on the 25xp 'thanks for visiting' ? I could check myself but haven't thought of trying while racing through all my neighbors lol

Yea but I mean like when everything is collected that 'thanks for visiting come back in 24 hours' pops up with like 25xp.. That carries over too? I know the loose stuff does..

Correct. You don't have to wait for the 'thanks' pop-up to get the 25 bonus XPs.

Correct. You don't have to wait for the 'thanks' pop-up to get the 25 bonus XPs. However, if you are vandalizing you do need to wait for the spray paint animation to end and the money to pop on the screen - or you don't get it. Not that I'm impatient or anything

This delay allows you to collect from four building in some towns. That doesn't work anymore. Hmmmm, could have swore I did 3 (after tapping 1 of something else) just the other day. Hard to verify because spray cans seem to rarely be there these days.

Dollars to Donuts
Buy decorations to boost XP & get extra donuts between updates. Unlike buildings, there's no waiting period. You can maximize your return on investment using this chart. The exact percentages may differ for you, depending on your bonus percentage, but the relative value between items should be roughly the same.
As you can see, the cheapest shrubs are the best investment, followed by pylons. On the other hand, placing tens of thousands of tiny shrubs is probably the most tedious hell ever.
The third best value is the volleyball net, which gives substantial XP while being relatively large.
Sell off what you don't want to keep (you get ¼ back) and buy more. When you're close to leveling up, remember to keep $100,000 in reserve, in case you don't get 3 donuts on your first pick.

I was able to do this within in the last few hours. A building and then three spray cans for a total of four actions.

When skating around your town quickly, don't use houses etc as anchor points as this is also a way to accidentally click on the rush button.
If you're moving an item a long way across town, don't struggle to tap and move it, just highlight it then go to where you want to place it, the item will follow you.

Do premium items have to be out or can they be in storage and you still get the bonus?

I posted this on another thread, but it seems more appropriate here:
Lisa and Homer will head straight for the closest trash if you task them to clean up. Springfield. If you want to clean up specific items and not others, group them into one area. Task Homer to lounge in the pool. Once he's set, move the pool right next to the trash you want to get rid of, then store the pool. This will put Homer right in the middle of the mess. The same can be done with Lisa reading by a tree, but I like to use Homer to clean up. For some reason I never found free doughnuts using Lisa, only with Homer.

I believe the XP earned is exactly 1 XP per $10 spent, regardless of what item you buy. You will get your multiplier (star rating + premium items) added and then it rounds up to the nearest whole number. So depending on what your multiplier is, the exact best value will vary somewhat. You want cheaper items to maximize the number of times you get to round up (think "Office Space"), but need items that put you just over a whole number so that your rounding up bonus is maximized. Knowing your EXACT multiplier is helpful here, which can be discovered by collecting from very high-paying buildings or long tasks.

Knowing your EXACT multiplier is helpful here, which can be discovered by collecting from very high-paying buildings or long tasks. The more I've done this as my multiplier has increased, the more variable the ROI seems to be, so I'm planning to recheck my numbers once I reach 50%. I might also redo things with hiding certain items and getting different multiplier levels to see how the rounding up or down affects the ratio between items, but that's pretty time-consuming. We'll see how that goes.
